SCYCSA is thrilled to offer Junior Sailing throughout the entire year! Our programs are progressive and we recommend that each sailor go through the designed progression of the program, for each class of boat. Every child is different and our instructors will assess your child’s skill and comfort with the level at which he/she is sailing. Instructors may recommend that some students may need to repeat one of the classes if they have not successfully mastered each skill required in that class.

Our program strives to create a fun and safe environment where kids can learn and come to love the sport of sailing. We emphasize the importance of teamwork, respect, and safety. Our number one goal is to pass on our passion for the sport to the next generation of St. Croix Sailors.

This fall we will be offering opti beginners, opti development, youth sailing team (including c420s and ILCAs), and US Sailing Reach STEM.

A Special Note to Parents

We encourage students to try new skills, but we will never force a child onto a boat if they are uncomfortable. Positive experiences build confident sailors.

To help students stay fully engaged, confident, and safe on the water, we need all sailors to be focused and present throughout the program day. Sailing requires attention, teamwork, and hands‑on learning. Students do best when they can immerse themselves in the experience without outside distractions.

For this reason, we ask that relatives and friends who are not SCYC members limit their time at the Club to drop‑off and pick‑up. This helps maintain a calm, productive learning environment and ensures that instructors can give their full attention to the sailors.

SCYC Access for Non‑Members

A gate access code will be distributed at check in on the first day of the session.

Families and friends who are not SCYC members cannot use the SCYC Bar or Galley, clubhouse spaces, Wi-Fi, beach chairs, kayaks, paddle boards, Bongo, or any SCYC equipment. Restrooms may be accessed from the west side of the SCYC buildings. Students who are not SCYC members may not use the SCYC facilities—kayaks, paddle boards, Bongo, or any SCYC equipment—outside of class times. This helps us honor the Club’s member‑only areas and preserves the privileges extended to our program during class hours.
