SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Scholarship Form : email to info@scycsa.org Scholarships are available based on Financial Need, Motivation and Interest, Growth Potential, Recommendations from prior instructors and Scholastic competency. The Maximum scholarship is 50% of the Fees. St Croix Yacht Club Sailing Association (" SCYCSA") is dedicated to providing educational sailing opportunities and promoting amateur sailing athletics throughout the St. Croix community, operating out of the St. Croix Yacht Club and Teague Bay. PROGRAM OVERVIEW In furtherance of educational and charitable purposes, St. Croix Yacht Club Sailing Association, Inc. operates a scholarship program ensuring sailing educational programs remain accessible to all, regardless of financial situation. The program empowers young individuals with a passion for sailing by providing access to high-quality instruction. Support goes to youth who demonstrate genuine interest in learning sailing, showpromise as skills progress, and embody a positive, respectful attitude both on and off the water. The program fosters personal growth, resilience, and a lifelong love for the sea. ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION The program prevents private benefit and ensures the educational mission reaches the broadest possible community segment, consistent with charitable status. The transparent, non-discriminatory process is publicized through the organization's website. Applications require information about family size, income, and relevant financial data to assess need. Scholarships are awarded to individuals ages 6-18 who demonstrate financial need that would otherwise prevent program participation. Financial need criteria are based on standardized measures such as household income levels relative to federal poverty guidelines or other verifiable indicators. SELECTION PROCESS A scholarship committee consisting of at least three (3) disinterested Board of Directors members reviews all applications. Board members with potential conflicts of interest (e.g., family member applying) do not participate in relevant application reviews. The committee makes decisions based solely on Scholarship Guidelines, without regard to race, color, or creed. All decisions are documented. FUND DISTRIBUTION Scholarship awards are paid directly to St. Croix Yacht Club Sailing Association, Inc. to cover costs for educational programs. Funds are not disbursed to individuals or families. The number and amount of scholarships awarded annually depends on available program funds. The maximum scholarship is 50% of the Fees. SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES Financial Need: Evaluated based on family income and financial need statements. Motivation & Interest: Assessed through written statements demonstrating goals for program participation. Growth Potential: Assessed based on desire to continue building sailing experience and demonstrated progress and potential for future development. Recommendation Letter: Evaluated based on strength and relevance of recommendations provided. Scholastic Competency: Minimum C average required to qualify. APPLICATION TYPES First-time applicants: Evaluated on Financial Need, Motivation & Interest and Scholastic Competency. Returning applicants: Evaluated on all criteria. Application analysis varies depending on child's age and whether the applicant is a returning scholarship recipient, evolving as the child progresses through sailing programs. MISSION STATEMENT St. Croix Yacht Club Sailing Association, Inc. will provide educational opportunities for youth and adults in the community of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands through accessible educational sailing programs, and will promote amateur athletics through sailboat racing competitions and other community-based sailing events, fostering a passion for the sport of sailing while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, skills in seamanship, self-confidence, and environmental respect.
