Sailors must be at least 7 years old and have prior sailing experience.
To participate in this class, students must demonstrate ability to control the boat, work as a team, and be motivated to improve. Focuses on boat handling, sailor confidence, self sufficiency. Students will be introduced to racing or work on continued development of their racing skills. Sailors must be proficient in sailing in the opti. SCYCSA coaches will be available for on island regattas. SCYCSA is willing to support coaching sailors at off island regattas based on availability, sailor skill level, and number of sailors.
Program Fee: $380
Boat Use /Facilities Fee: $150; $100 if sailor has their own boat
If a student is not a member of the St. Croix Yacht Club, then they are required to pay a boat use/facilities fee of $150 per session. A student can become a member of the St. Croix Yacht Club, either as a Jr. member (age 13 and over) or as a child of parent(s) who are Members of the St. Croix Yacht Club. Registration:
Registration is not complete and spot(s) will not be held until payment is received in full.
NOTE: Registration will be automatically canceled if payment is not received within 15 minutes of completing online registration. If registration is full, please register to the waitlist. Additional spots will be opened pending interest and instructor availability. Preference will be given to participants who can attend a full session.
REGISTERED CLASS MAY BE CHANGED. Depending on a sailor’s skill, competency and performance and/or depending on the number of registrants in any class, we reserve the right to place a student in a different class from the one registered for.
SCHOLARSHIPS. Scholarships are available based on Financial Need, Motivation and Interest, Growth Potential, Recommendations from prior instructors and Scholastic competency. PREREQUISITES. Must be able to swim 50 yards and pass a swim test.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT. A U.S. Coast Guard approved Type III Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with a plastic whistle attached is required for all activities on the water and dock. If you do not own a life jacket, then the club PFDs are available.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT. Sailing gloves, Sun Protection(sunglasses, hat, long sleeves and pants, sunscreen,) Reusable water bottle, Water shoes
